Local To Utah publishes directory listings, event content, and editorial content intended to serve Utah users first. These Editorial Standards explain what types of content are permitted on the platform, what types of submissions may be rejected or removed, and how Local To Utah approaches promotional content, link usage, accuracy, moderation, and quality.
These standards apply to businesses, contributors, sponsors, claimants, advertisers, reviewers, and non-business users who submit reviews, event details, article ideas, corrections, comments, or other materials for consideration or publication.
Editorial Purpose
Local To Utah exists to help users discover relevant local businesses, events, and information. Content published on the platform may provide visibility and promotional benefit to businesses or contributors, but the primary standard for publication is whether the content is useful, relevant, accurate, and appropriate for the audience.
Local To Utah may consider search quality, local relevance, answer-engine usefulness, readability, originality, and user trust when reviewing or editing content.
Restricted and Regulated Industry Standards
Local To Utah does not permit submissions primarily promoting adult entertainment, escort services, sexually explicit businesses, pornography, political campaigns, electioneering, gambling or betting activity, marijuana or cannabis commercial promotion, illegal drugs, deceptive schemes, hacking services, fake documents, or other substantially similar subject matter that the platform determines to be incompatible with its audience, standards, or business model.
Local To Utah may allow certain lawful, regulated local businesses, including for example firearms retailers, gunsmiths, sporting goods businesses, hunting-related businesses, or fireworks sellers, provided the submission is lawful, accurately described, locally relevant, and appropriate for the platform. Such submissions may be subject to heightened editorial review, added verification, stricter moderation, or refusal at Local To Utah's discretion.
Local To Utah does not permit unlawful weapons-related activity, unlawful firearm transfers, dangerous or illegal explosives activity, irresponsible promotion of regulated products, or content that encourages unlawful harm, violence, or evasion of legal requirements.
Directory Listing Standards
Directory listings must represent real businesses, organizations, professionals, or service providers. Listings should contain accurate and current information, including the business name, description, contact information, location or service area, website, services, and other relevant public details where applicable.
Listings may be rejected, edited, unpublished, or removed if they include any of the following:
- fake, misleading, or unverifiable business identities;
- duplicate listings or duplicate service-area/location entries;
- keyword stuffing in the business name or description;
- false addresses, virtual office abuse, or fabricated service areas;
- unlawful, deceptive, abusive, or prohibited offerings;
- content primarily intended to manipulate rankings or drop links without user value.
Blog and Article Standards
Blog posts and articles should provide substantive value to readers. Suitable article formats may include local guides, interviews, explainers, FAQs, educational content, comparisons, event-related coverage, business spotlights, or category-specific resources that help users make decisions or understand a local topic.
Articles may mention businesses and may include links to relevant businesses, services, or supporting sources. However, articles may not be published if they are primarily promotional, thin, repetitive, copied, spun, mass-produced, misleading, irrelevant, or designed mainly to create ranking signals rather than help users.
Local To Utah may reject or revise content that reads like an advertisement disguised as editorial content, a generic AI-generated page without meaningful local value, or a link-placement vehicle with little informational substance.
Event Standards
Events submitted to the platform must be real, timely, and specific. Event submissions should accurately describe the event title, date, time, location or venue, organizer, and any attendance or ticket information reasonably necessary for users.
Event submissions may be rejected, edited, unpublished, or removed if they are false, misleading, outdated, duplicated, overly vague, disguised advertisements, recurring sales promotions presented as events, or otherwise unsuitable for users.
Reviews and Non-Business User Content
Non-business users may use the site to browse listings, read content, view events, and, where permitted, submit reviews, corrections, or other user-facing content. Such users may not submit defamatory, abusive, harassing, false, deceptive, infringing, private, or unlawful material.
Reviews and user-submitted comments or corrections may be moderated, edited for formatting, declined, unpublished, or removed if Local To Utah determines that they are unreliable, abusive, manipulative, off-topic, or otherwise inconsistent with platform standards.
Link and Promotional Standards
Local To Utah allows links where they are relevant to the topic and helpful to the user. A page may contain more than one outbound link if those links are genuinely useful, contextually appropriate, and proportionate to the subject matter.
At the same time, Local To Utah does not permit manipulative linking behavior, excessive promotional linking, irrelevant outbound links, required anchor text mandates, or content created primarily to pass ranking value. Local To Utah reserves sole discretion over whether any link is published, edited, removed, shortened, redirected, labeled, or assigned follow, nofollow, sponsored, ugc, or similar attributes.
A business, sponsor, advertiser, or contributor may receive exposure from content published on the platform, but no submission is entitled to publication in any particular form, and no party may require a guaranteed number of links, guaranteed link attributes, guaranteed ranking benefit, or guaranteed retention period.
AI-Assisted Content
AI-assisted drafting tools may be used in the content process. However, all content must still meet Local To Utah's standards for originality, factual accuracy, readability, usefulness, clarity, and local relevance. Content that appears generic, templated, repetitive, low-value, or insufficiently reviewed may be rejected or revised.
Accuracy, Corrections, and Updates
Submitters are responsible for the accuracy of the information they provide. Local To Utah may request supporting information, edit inaccurate content, or remove content that appears outdated, unverifiable, or misleading.
Local To Utah may, but is not obligated to, update listings, events, or articles to improve accuracy, formatting, metadata, structured data, readability, or policy compliance.
Editorial Rights and Enforcement
Local To Utah retains full editorial discretion over what it publishes and how published material appears. This includes the right to edit titles, descriptions, formatting, metadata, structured data, headings, excerpts, links, schema markup, images, and other page elements.
Local To Utah may reject, remove, revise, merge, suspend, relabel, noindex, or otherwise moderate any content or account activity that it determines, in its sole discretion, is low-quality, misleading, manipulative, duplicative, abusive, noncompliant, or harmful to the platform or its users.
Repeated violations may result in content removal, account restrictions, denial of future submissions, claim denial, link modification, or permanent removal from the platform.
