Do You Have Plans for Any of Cache Valley's Summer Activities This Year?
Get out your cheap sunglasses and sunscreen, because summer is in full swing in Logan. All across Cache Valley, we can look forward to hot days and slightly less hot nights, with sunburns all around. If that sounds like a fun time, well, better you than me. As for myself, I might just check out some of the summer activities going on locally, because what good is all that sun if you’re not enjoying yourself in it?
What Summer Activities Are Going On In Logan

1. Hiking Trails
If you’re looking to get or stay in shape, you can’t beat a good hike. I live near a nature trail that gives me a good 45 minute walk I can do whenever I need to get away from the screen I stare at for more hours per day than is probably healthy. That may not be everyone’s situation, but there are a large number of hiking trails in Logan Canyon that are only a short drive away from anywhere in the city. Just make sure to follow fire safety rules as you hike; we don’t want Logan Canyon to end up looking like your average California highway. And the only thing it costs you is the gas to drive there.
2. First Dam Park
Another great free place to spend some time is First Dam at the mouth of Logan Canyon. It connects directly to the nature trails and offers parking if you want to start there, but if you just want to hang out at the park, you’ll find plenty of swimming, nearby walking trails, and usually ducks to feed.
3. The North Logan Library Events
I’ve always been a book-lover. During the first few years after graduating from college, I used to do some volunteer work at the North Logan Library. They’ve got a sizable collection of books and movies you can borrow. If you’re looking for something to do, they also have a wide array of sponsored events you can join in. There’s quite a few summer activities you can sign up for, covering a wide range of subjects from arts and crafts to talent shows and book clubs.
4. Zootah at Willow Park
Willow Park has been around as long as I can remember. My family used to go there a lot when I was a kid and it’s still around for those looking for a budget-friendly zoo experience. Admissions are $9 per ticket, with discounts for children under 12, seniors, and veterans, and infants getting in free. With dozens of animals to visit, a nice park-like atmosphere that provides plenty of shade, and sponsored events you can sign up for, you get get a lot out of a quick trip to this park.
5. Beaver Mountain
The Beav, as some people call it, is mostly known for being one of, if not the best local ski resort in the area. If you’re looking for a chance to get away, though, it’s got plenty of summer camping available, and even has some programs available, like the bike races coming up on June 28. They’re currently undergoing some construction for their campgrounds, but there’s still plenty available to anyone who wants to spend some time on the mountain.
6. Visit the Fairgrounds
The Cache County fairgrounds and event center are a great place to spend some time. There’s always something going on, including the Cache Valley Cruise In during the 4th of July week and the Cache County Fair and Rodeo in August. The cost depends on which event you’re looking at, but it’s all pretty budget friendly.
7. The Garden Market
The Cache Valley Garden Market is a great place to sample some local flavor, with live music performances, special events, and vendor booths for fresh, locally grown produce. It opens every year in May and will continue to the middle of October, so there’s plenty of time to squeeze it into your busy schedule. As a non-profit organization, the market carefully vets all events, so you can count on a fun, family-friendly experience whenever you make time for it.
8. The American West Heritage Center
A lot of Utahns take heritage very seriously. If you haven’t been to the American West Heritage Center, you should consider paying it a visit. An educational center, it offers summer classes and events focused on the rich cultural history of Utah. Whether you want to plan a personal gathering, like a family reunion, or participate in its handcart trek recreations, or sign up for one of its summer camp programs, you’ll find plenty to entertain you and your kids here.
9.
